Ask me anything — branding, websites, marketing. I answer in seconds.

For ecommerce website development cost India buyers should plan on roughly ₹30,000 to ₹1,50,000 for a Shopify store built by an agency, ₹50,000 to ₹3,00,000 for WooCommerce, and ₹5,00,000 or more for a custom build. Those are our working planning ranges, not quotes, and the build fee is the smaller half of the story: after launch, payment gateway fees, platform subscriptions and maintenance decide what the store really costs you.
TL;DR: Start on Shopify unless you have a specific reason not to. Pick WooCommerce if you already live in WordPress or need odd product logic. Go custom only when the platform itself is the product. Budget the running costs before you approve the build quote.
Three bands cover most of the quotes you will see. These are ZingBizz's own planning ranges from the stores we scope, so treat them as a starting point for a conversation, not a price list.
What moves a quote inside a band: catalogue size, how many product variants, custom design versus a theme, number of integrations (ERP, CRM, warehouse), migration from an old store, and how many languages or currencies you sell in.
Shopify suits a store that wants to launch in weeks and be run by a non-technical team. Updates, security and uptime are Shopify's problem, not yours.
WooCommerce suits a business that already runs its content site on WordPress, wants full control of the code, or needs behaviour no app store offers. You gain flexibility and take on maintenance.
Custom suits the case where the commerce logic is the business: rental pricing engines, multi-vendor marketplaces, made-to-order configurators. If a Shopify app can do your thing, custom is an expensive way to feel original.
This is the part most India-focused cost pages skip, so here is the working. It uses Shopify's India pricing page and Razorpay's standard fees, both read on 14 October 2026:
Now take a store selling ₹5,00,000 a month. The gateway costs ₹11,800 whichever plan you pick. On Basic you add ₹10,000 in Shopify's fee plus the ₹1,499 subscription: about ₹23,300 a month, or 4.7% of sales. On Grow it is ₹5,000 plus ₹5,599, about ₹22,400. On Advanced it is ₹3,000 plus ₹22,680, about ₹37,500.
The useful finding: Basic and Grow cost the same at about ₹4,10,000 of monthly sales. Below that, stay on Basic. Above it, Grow is cheaper, and it stays cheaper until roughly ₹42.7 lakh a month, where Advanced finally wins. Most small stores never reach that point. Both pages change, so confirm current rates before you decide.
Other running costs to put in the sheet: paid apps (reviews, subscriptions, upsells), a domain, email, WooCommerce hosting and backups, a maintenance retainer, and ad spend, which dwarfs everything else for most new stores.
Payment gateway integration is usually included in a build quote, but ask which gateway. Razorpay, PayU, Cashfree and others all work with the main platforms, and fees differ, so get a written rate.
Shipping is the real variable. Aggregators such as Shiprocket connect to Shopify and WooCommerce through ready-made apps and plugins, which is cheap. A direct courier API, cash-on-delivery reconciliation, or a warehouse system is custom work and is best quoted as a separate line item.
Our usual ranges: a template Shopify store takes two to four weeks, WooCommerce four to eight, and custom three to six months. The calendar usually slips on your side, not the agency's: product photos, descriptions, GST and bank documents for the gateway, and approvals.
More often than agencies like to admit. If you sell under about 100 products, have no unusual checkout rules, and your brand can live inside a good theme, a template with your logo, colours and decent photography will sell as well as a custom design. Spend the saved money on photography and ads.
A template stops being enough when you need complex bundles, B2B price lists, deep ERP sync, or a storefront experience that is itself your differentiator. Even then, try Shopify with a few apps before you commission custom code.
If you want a second opinion on a quote, ZingBizz builds ecommerce sites on all three routes and will tell you honestly when the cheaper one is enough.
